Standard BW Tokens Variants

Legacy, Vintage, Standard and whatever else, it's all in here. We'll add subforums later if it really feels neccesary, but for now you'll have to rub elbows with the cretins who maybe aren't playing "your" format.

Here's my current updated list. I'm feeling much better about this list than other versions and I think it's tuning well.

Here's the BW Tokens list I played most recently http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/deck.asp?deck_id=991310

I came in 15th, one of my losses was to the guy who won the darn thing :)

The deck isn't special... the sideboard is. In nearly every game I took out the swords and sided in Stony Silence. Blew my mind how many things that messed up for my opponents. Swords, R.Bombs, Mimic Vats... the list just goes on and on. I'm really suprised that more people aren't running a Stony Silence plan in the sideboard.

I was originally running it when DKA came out, but I took it out of the board due to simply how much I didn't want to cast it in my curve. I might take a look at it again. With ray of revelation, o-ring, etc. popular and swords on the decline, I'm wondering exactly how useful it is. I'd keep having it in hand and just not wanting to waste my tempo casting it for a card he might have when they only have 2 bombs usually main deck. It does seem sweet if their plan is sun titan/bomb however.

Somewhat related, DCI has banned the use of Lingering Souls and Intangible Virtue in INN Block Constructed. But they haven't banned it in Standard.

I'm a tiny bit confused by that move...

Obviously, the natural evolution of my deck:

I've abandoned G altogether. Blue just gives me more threats after a wrath (geist+hero) as well as counter spells to help deal with solar flare and esper control much better. Countering their turn 4 day is super relevant when they are at 10 and you have 7 power on the board. Plus, the haunt can help grind out matches against them much easier than the township would. The downside is that I am a little worse in the mirror and not as grindy against the other aggro decks, but I can still go big with geist+sword.

Congrats on the 4th place finish man! How did the planeswalkers work out for you? I had found them a little lackluster in the previous environment. When I ran my deck at the $1k recently, both of the tokens lists made top 8 out of the ~70 people there. I still like the deck, but it can be pretty bad in the hands of someone who hasn't tested it much. Tough break with the mana flood, but your list looks like it could survive a flood a little better with the 'walkers. Did the entreat ever do anything for you? What would you change if you played it again this week?

Thanks again.. =) Planeswalkers were pretty good at whole tournament. Of course i sided elspeths out against aggro decks but i didn't touch to Sorins in any match =) I think the planeswalkers must be in this deck.. They're pretty big threats, and their so trusted doj and ratchets can't deal with them..

About entreat, i actually love the card.. So i decided to test it before WMCQ. I tested and it was always better than Midnight Haunting. Everytime it miracled, they faced the position 'Sweep or die'. Of course I wouldn't want to see it in my beginning hand, so i ran only one. Even with 4 mana miracle that is absolutely insane. With so many people playing aggro i thought it will crush them =) But eventually i didn't miracle it in any of my matches. There were times i said 'come on angels' especially after seeing my opponents hands with surgical extraction. But it didn't happen. :D

If i were to play again this week i really don't know what to change in this list, but stony silence is always a question for me. What do you think about stony silence? I didn't see any of your lists have stony silences. Why not?

I don't much like stony silence. It can be good to buy time against certain decks (stops bomb, sword/batterskull, and birthing pod), but I found it to be a dead card way too often to be playable. I'd rather be curving out and smashing them to 10 by turn 3 than playing a do nothing on turn two and then curving out. The turn it gives them is usually not worth killing 2-4 cards in their deck considering how resilient the deck already is to wraths. In fact, I found splashing for counter spells to be much more useful countering the same things you wanted to stop with stony silence while also giving you more threats in geist and moorland haunt and also stopping their actual wraths on turns you needed to do so, but that is a little extreme on the mana.
